A Save the Koala Month Adventure – September 2025

Get ready for a whole month of fuzzy fun and koala kindness! This September, we’re giving our favourite fluffy tree huggers the biggest virtual cuddle ever — with 30 days of cute and caring activities to help koalas live happy, safe lives in the wild for many years to come.

No real cuddles (koalas like their space!), but virtual cuddles showing how much our future generations care — through lots of love, laughter, and leafy good deeds to raise both awareness and funds this September!

Save the Koala Monthis the annual worldwide event dedicated to raising awareness about koalas and their habitat. In September 2025, we invite you to join the Australian Koala Foundation’s mission to save the koala and create a more sustainable future for all.

We’ll soon be releasing a full schedule for the month — 30 ways over 30 days of activities you can do to help save the koala. Think of fun ideas like planting trees, hosting bear-y cool fundraisers like Koala Karaoke, trivia nights, and koala bake sales. You could even adopt a koala, join the Koala Army, or give a presentation about koalas during your next show and tell at school!

The list is endless — and we’ll be sharing new and exciting ideas every single day during Save the Koala Month.

Why Save the Koala?

Koalas are one of Australia’s most iconic and beloved animals, but they face threats from habitat loss, climate change, disease, and human activity, contributing to population declines. Did you know that there are less than 60,000 Koalas left in the wild?

How can you help?

In September, you can take part in a variety of fundraising activities to support the Koala, and also share AKF’s educational resources about Koalas and their habitats (visit About Koalas for more information).

Let’s all celebrate Save the Koala Month and taking action to protect these beloved animals and their habitats. Thank you for your support!

Fundraising guidelines

What can you do with the money you have raised?

You must send us any funds which you raise in our name.

Usually, money raised is simply sent to us, however, you now have the option to put that money towards any of our programs listed below:

Join our Adopt a Koala program
Plant a tree program
Make a donation to the Australian Koala Foundation

Send your fundraising story to us by post or by email, and you can even include a photo or two!

How to send the money to us:

You can send the fundraising money to us by cheque (check), money order or credit card. If using a credit card, we have a secure online form that can be used.

If you are using your fundraising money to join our Adopt a Koala or Tree Planting programs , don’t hesitate to  get in touch with AKF about directing your donation.
