Update on our recent feature on the ABC about Redlands Koala population

26 February 2026 –
G’day, everyone,
Quick update from ABC News this week about Koalas on the Redlands Coast.
Research shows Koala numbers haven’t dropped further since 2019. After losing around 80% since the early 2000s, that’s a bit of good news.
But as our Chair, Deborah Tabart OAM, said, this isn’t a recovery. With only 350–500 Koalas left on the mainland and habitat still being cleared, they’re still at serious risk. One big fire or drought could wipe them out.
Stable doesn’t mean safe. That’s why we’re pushing for a Koala Protection Act (link) to make sure Koalas and their habitat are properly protected.
You can help — join the Koala Army and have your say. Every voice counts.
