Hello Koala Lovers,

Elvis seems to have found his voice and is now very interested in tennis (the balls particularly!) — and our amazing Koala Army Ambassador, Ben Wenzel. I am so proud of Ben and his achievements, and I know we all can’t wait to cheer him on in New York!

Ben is a wheelchair tennis player who has been making waves in the quad division. Last year, he dominated the juniors and brought home the doubles title, and this year he’s stepping up to compete in his very first adult Grand Slam at the US Open. What makes this even more meaningful is that Ben’s debut happens in the first week of Save The Koala Month — which makes it extra special for all of us cheering from home.

Before heading to New York, Ben has been training hard in Cairns alongside Australian Paralympic gold medallist Heath Davidson. They’ve been sweating it out on court, pushing each other to achieve big goals, and even played an exhibition match at Clifton Beach Tennis Club — an epic three-setter that Ben walked away winning. Moments like these show just how determined and talented he is.

As a proud Koala Army Ambassador, Ben isn’t just representing himself — he’s representing the fight to save the Koala. While he’s preparing to face the world’s best on the tennis court, he’s also helping us recruit new members to the Koala Army and spreading the message that Koalas need strong champions, just like him.
