G’day, legends…
It’s your boy Elvis here – Golden Retriever, professional good boy, and full-time Koala ambassador.
Cool news — Mum was on the ABC this week talking about Koalas on the Redlands Coast. Big moment. Big conversation.
Here’s the short version: some interesting new conversations. New research shows Koala numbers in Redlands haven’t declined further since 2019. After an 80% drop since the early 2000s, that pause is welcome.
But let’s look at the bigger picture — this isn’t a comeback story yet (and Mum made that very clear). With only around 350 to 500 Koalas left on the mainland and habitat still being cleared, they’re still in real trouble. One major fire or drought could wipe them out.
Mum’s message was simple: stable doesn’t mean safe. If we keep losing trees, we keep losing Koalas.
So yes, we’ll take the good news — but now’s the time to protect what’s left and make sure Koalas have a future, not just a fighting chance. We’ll keep pushing for a Koala Protection Act (KPA).
